Every project begins with attention to the land, architecture, people, and life of a place.
We study its geology, soil, water, vegetation, climate, history, views, movement, and patterns of use—and look for the qualities that give it character. From there, the landscape is composed as a whole. Landform, planting, material, movement, architecture, and atmosphere are brought into relationship to create a coherent experience of place. We then carry the design into the landscape through construction, horticulture, and craft, working closely with architects, builders, artisans, and horticultural teams.
But the work does not end at completion. The best landscapes deepen with time. Trees mature, plants spread and recede, stone weathers, light shifts, and views open and close. A garden gradually develops a history of its own.
Our role is to design for that becoming—to create the conditions for a landscape to evolve, deepen, reveal itself over time, and for people to encounter nature with attention, wonder, and awe. Where appropriate, we remain involved as the garden matures.

Landscape is inherently collaborative. We work closely with clients, architects, builders, artists, craftspeople, and horticultural teams.
Where architecture is part of the project, landscape and building are considered as one continuous experience from the earliest stages. The strongest landscapes emerge through this dialogue, when each discipline contributes to a larger sense of place.
